How To Become Courageous And Fearless – (How To Be A GirlBoss Habit #6)

How to finally find the #courage, #motivation and #inspiration to change!

Demonstrate Courage[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]

(This series is based on the book High Performance Habits: How Extraordinary People Become That Way. I highly recommend this book to create real, life changing habits. I was not paid to write this OR given this book for free. I genuinely love it and have found it absolutely life changing for me – in just the few weeks of reading it – so I wanted to share it. I hope you find it the same for you!)

The last & final high performance habit is “[demonstrating] courage”[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]. Which Brendon refers to as the “cornerstone habit of high performance”.[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]

Learning how to become courageous and fearless is all about taking action even when you’re not feelin’ it.

I think we underestimate just how much doubt and internal debate high performers & successful people have. And this can plague us.

The difference is high performers & successful people find the courage to take action anyways.[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]

“From assessing tens of thousands of people, what has become abundantly clear is that high performers report taking action despite fear much more than others do.” – Brendon Burchard

BUT it’s not just about taking action. It’s also about the outcome.[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]

If someone is with friends, who encourage them to steal (which, let’s be honest, is a scary thing to do!) does that mean the person has figured out how to become courageous and fearless? No.

It’s also about the outcome. Taking mindless action doesn’t mean we’ve figured out how to become courageous and fearless – it makes us confused!

Courage is also relative. An action that might take a lot of courage for you, might not for someone else. It all depends on you.

“The important thing is that you define what being more courageous means to you, and start living that way” – Brendon Burchard

So how we find out what courage means for us & how to become courageous and fearless:

Define what courage is to you

The best way to define what courage is to you is by asking!

Brendon has a great question in his book:

“If your future best self – a version of you ten years older, who is even stronger, more capable, and more successful than you imagined yourself to be – showed up on your door step today and looked at your current circumstances, what courageous action would that future self advise you to take right away to change your life? How would your future self tell you to live?”[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]

“Embrace the suck”[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]

And once we figure out what steps to take & what courage means to us, it doesn’t get any easier.

An important reminder from Brendon is to “honour the struggle”.[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref]

They’re powerful, useful words in a society hung up on positivity.

Sometimes positivity is owning it. Saying the situation is sh*t & working hard to grow out of it.

All we can do is “embrace the suck”[ref]Burchard, B. (2017). High performance habits: how extraordinary people become that way. Carlsbad: Hay House, Inc.[/ref] as Brendon refers to it and take action!

“We will do more for others than for ourselves. And in doing something for others, we find our reason for courage, and our cause for focus & excellence” – Brendon Burchard

This one hit home for me. Ever since my partner changed his job and moved into a more demanding career, it’s been tough for him.

And while my whiney ass would complain (not very courageous of me!) he never says a word.

This has spurred me into action. I don’t want him to work long hours for the rest of his life to support our family. I want both of us to have time and be present. Life is precious.

He is my reason for my courage. He is how I’ve learnt how to become courageous and fearless. Every time I’m scared to take a step forward, I think of him.

So who needs you to have courage? Who needs you to be their example?
