Beginners Yoga For Anxiety And Depression

There’s something about Yoga, isn’t there? It’s all the teachers and students are on a different levels. They’ve seen another part of the world that we haven’t yet.

Being a beginner, I’ve also had my fair share of experiences with videos that have poses beyond what I can do at that moment! If a yoga sequence is too tough, it can put us off. So I’ve made sure to find videos that don’t do that!

How Does Yoga Help With Anxiety And Depression

While today’s post isn’t about going into the benefits of Yoga, we can all see it in those who practice it. On a physical level, it gives us time to stop, breathe and be fully in the moment (even if the moment is a struggle of stretching!). On a spiritual plane, it somehow connects us to that more profound energy. It combines our mind and body through breath and being present. But the best part of Yoga is every experience, every yoga sequence, whilst the same is experienced differently for everyone.

Times can be challenging, and turning to Yoga is a great way to delve deeper and, at the same time, experience some relief during episodes of depression and anxiety.

While I’m still a beginner, I am learning how Yoga can teach us to let go. So today, I wanted to share some great beginner yoga for anxiety and depression.

I love the YouTube videos by Adriene. She explains how the poses she chooses help. With each yoga sequence, she explains in her description and at the beginning of each video. She also kind of pep talks you through it (which is always helpful as a beginner!).

So I hope you like these videos!

Yoga For Anxiety And Stress

This is a yoga sequence I practised this morning! I love relaxation yoga for anxiety. So if you’re looking for poses or a sequence to help, this is the best type of Yoga for anxiety I’ve come across so far. Adriene has a great, gentle way of explaining the poses. She’s very relatable (hence her three million+ YouTube following!).

Yoga For Anxiety

This is another video that offers a yoga sequence for anxiety. If you’re not loving the downward dog or a lot of lunge movements just yet, you might find this is the best type of Yoga for anxiety for you right now. It’s what Adriene calls “low to the ground” and “hands-free”.

It’s a great slow-breath-orientated practice.

Yoga For Depression

This yoga sequence is specifically for depression. But, again, Adriene really does have a gentle way of explaining poses and how it helps. This makes her beginner’s Yoga for anxiety and depression so great.

Yoga For After Disaster

Whether a personal disaster or a worldwide one, this is a great yoga sequence. Adriene states this practice is about breath (so if you’re looking for fewer poses and more mediation, this is a great video!)

Stress Melt

We all know that with anxiety and depression comes HUGE amounts of stress. So the final yoga sequence of Adriene’s’ that I’ve added today is the Stress Melt.

It’s a grounding practice to help realign when we feel “scattered”, as Adriene says.

I hope you’ve liked these videos. Adriene’s beginner yoga for anxiety and depression is a great way to help deal with whatever you’re feeling.

I’ve honestly found her sequences tough enough to challenge me but enough to want to continue. She keeps them around the 20-minute mark, which is excellent, and she has many videos for coping with depression and anxiety. And as a beginner, that’s been great!
