Starting part-time work as been an interesting experience. After taking a year off, I was used to having time for my morning routines. This was a motivating challenge. I wanted to learn how to start a morning routine, how to start a good day and find positive ways to start the day before work.

If you’re looking for the best way to start a morning routine, this post is for you! I’ve had a few weeks now to figure out how to start the day with energy even when you have to get up early for work! Here I’m going to share my morning routine checklist on how to start a good day before work. This can also be used for busy mamas too. Either way, these morning routine ideas are positive ways to start the day productively and happily.

1) Meal prep lunches

First, on the morning routine checklist is something I do the night before. When I was thinking about how to start a good day I thought about what activities give me the most stress. Getting up and worrying about what I had to pack for lunch was one of them! So one of the positive ways to start the day was to make sure that my lunch bag was packed and ready to go with something filling and nourishing.

2) Organize your clothes

Next on the morning routine checklist for how to start a good day was to make sure my clothes were organized. Figuring out what to wear in the morning can delay my day and stress me out! I end up in a panic about what I should wear and how late I’m making myself. If you want to be productive then the best way to start a morning routine is to make sure that things you KNOW are going to trouble you in the morning are dealt with the night before. So sort out your clothes, plan out your uniform or anything else you might need to organize for the day before.

3) Organize all your routines for the next day

After you’ve figured out how to start a morning routine, the next best way to start a morning routine is to organize everything for those routines the night before.

These are the things on my morning routine checklist for the best way to start my morning routine:

  • Organize all my vitamins to take in the morning
  • Make sure my headphones and tablet are on the treadmill
  • Decide what I’m going to watch on my tablet in the morning
  • Fill my water bottle and put it on the treadmill
  • Set up my workout clothes in my room so I put them on straight away

4) Find an alarm that doesn’t make you want to throw it

Now you might be asking how to start a good day when you have to get up to the sound of an alarm tone that haunts you every day. I understand what you mean! I used to use the most annoying alarm that was not the ideal way to start the day. This was mistake one. When we wake up annoyed at the alarm we’ve already started on a difficult note.

One of the best ways to start a morning routine is to find an alarm that you don’t want to throw! Is this possible? I think so! I found an alarm that mimics a sunrise and lights up the room 15 minutes before it’s due to go off. It’s become one of the most positive ways to start the day.

It also wakes me up to the sounds of waves. So think sunrise, beach waves. Suddenly waking up at 6 am is pleasant. So how to start a good day early in the morning? Find yourself an alarm clock that wakes you up positively!

5) Set an alarm that gives you time to do things slowly

Wow does this one simple tip make the biggest difference when figuring out how to start a good day? If you’re thinking about which positive ways to start the day should be at the top of your morning routine checklist then this is it!

When we give ourselves time to do things slowly and intentionally our mindset is SO much better for the rest of the day. We feel as though we’re running the day as opposed to the day running us.

The best way to start your morning routine is to give yourself enough time to do whatever you need to do and then some! Don’t rush through it. Give yourself time to process and do things whilst being present. It sets the tone for a great day.

6) Meditate before you get out of bed

Who knew that one of the most positive ways to start the day doesn’t even involve getting out of bed! Learn how to start a good day by finding a meditation that truly nourishes your mind and soul. Put it on your phone, set it up as your alarm (this is another great morning routine checklist tip) and meditate in bed. If you’re worried you’ll fall back asleep then sit up in bed or set a safety alarm. I usually set another alarm around 6:20 (since I wake up at 6 and my meditation is usually 20 minutes long).

These are some great meditations available on YouTube that are the best way to start your morning routine.

7) Choose a workout that you love

The only way I’ve managed to be consistent with my morning exercise routine was to find something I genuinely love to do. For me, this is treadmill time! I put on something motivational or watch my favorite TV show and I get in some me-time before work.

Part of the reason we stress during the day is that we feel as though we haven’t had our own time. Exercising is not only one of the best positive ways to start the day but it’s also how to start a good day. It gives you time to nourish and honor your body. Do that it in a way you enjoy!

8) Give yourself 10 minutes of quiet self-reflection

Quiet time is intimidating and underrated. Half the time, we feel like we’re going crazy because we haven’t stopped. So if you’re figuring out how to start a morning routine maybe it’s worth looking at stopping before starting!

Giving ourselves 10 minutes to sit there with a cup of tea and journal or pray are just a few ways we can start a morning routine that also nourishes our soul. It’s one of the positive ways to start the day that we often don’t think about.

9) Choose herbal tea that gives you a slow boost of energy

The best way to start a morning routine with more energy is with herbal tea. My favorites for how to start the day with energy are peppermint or Matcha. Matcha provides a caffeine boost that doesn’t come with the crash that coffee gives. Peppermint is known to stimulate the mind and help us concentrate. Either choice is a positive way to start the day that offers natural alternatives to how to start the day with energy.

10) Choose a podcast or audiobook for the car

Positive ways to start the day can be to listen to a podcast or an audiobook. At the moment how to start a good day for me is to listen to Jim Rohn through audible. His delivery is great and his ideas are super common sense.

If you don’t have time to read this is a great option. It helps to feed our minds productive and positive ideas to take with us during the day.

11) Drive to work a bit earlier and have time to yourself in the car

This is a little trick I started by accident. I leave early for work to skip school traffic but then end up there half an hour early. I now take my book and my journal. I use this time to sit and read in the car.

Again it’s about giving ourselves a bit of “me” time. No matter where it is. I go into work happier and calm because I’ve had time for myself.

When you’re figuring out how to start a good day or looking at positive ways to start the day, it’s really up to you! Take these ideas for your morning routine list or take away some that don’t work for you. It’s all a work in progress when it comes to the best way to start a morning.
